God's Time

The first time I learned the meaning of the Greek word karios I did an Aha!  Karios is God’s time and God doesn’t necessarily operate on kronos (also a Greek word) or clock time or calendar time or my time or any human construct of time.  God functions on God’s time.  The scriptures refer to God’s time on several occasions in the Old Testament most notably Ecclesiastes 3:1 there is a time for every matter under heaven....

There are many references to time in the New Testament especially related to Jesus.  Mark 1:15 Jesus says the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand.   Romans 5:6 …at the right time Christ died for us….  And …with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.      2 Peter 3:8

As a person very conscious of time, for a variety of reasons and sometimes inpatient, I have learned that God’s time or timing is just what it needs to be.  Any sooner or any later the event, the experience, the project, the program, the relationship would not have worked out as it should.  When I have forced my timing on something it often doesn’t turn out well or at all!

Visiting with prisoners I hear them say that if God had not intervened in their life when God did they would be dead.  I can say that about my own life on several occasions.  We cannot claim to understand or predict God’s time or timing, but what we can be sure of is that God’s time is what’s best because God knows what is best for us, for others, and for the world God made and so deeply loves and redeems over and over and over.

For some in prison time stands still.  For others it drags on – will I ever get out, will I ever get mail, will I ever get a visitor, will I ever get….  Some know their time will come to an end in prison – they will die there.

Can anything or anyone help us deal with our time challenges whatever they may be and whether we are in prison or not?

God the author of life, time, seasons and eternity is the best ONE to help us deal with our time challenges.  God can grant us peace to accept the times we cannot change, the courage to change the times we can and the wisdom to know the difference.

May God grant you and bless you with just the right sense of time.
