God is Calling Us
May 21, 2017
The devotional book God Calling has blessed many Christians and non-Christians since its publication in 1930. In 1985 my mother had just died an unexpected death at age 60 and, as I looked through her bookcase for anything that might have inspired her, I saw this worn copy on the shelf between the Bible and the AA “Big Book.” All three were shabby, with notes written in the margins - quite a treasure! It was November 12, 1985. The devotional for that date spoke about “The Voiceless Cry” that comes from anguished hearts and is heard above all the music of Heaven.

Mother's Day: A Perspective from Prison
May 14, 2017
There are so many wounded adult children in this world who have never known the love from a mother that God intends for all children to feel. So many incarcerated people began their journey to prison at the hands of a mother who for whatever reason failed to be the mother their child needed them to be.

Plans
May 08, 2017
For the ministry of PCA, we plan, we work, we negotiate and we educate, and we think things are flowing along as planned when all of a sudden there is a delay in the prison or in the sponsoring denomination. These are reminders that while we are called to engage in and support this important work, it is God’s work, and will happen in God’s time - not an easy reminder for we planners.

Into the Light
May 01, 2017
The question has been posed to me many times, “Why volunteer in prison?” As if I’m wasting my time and energy on people who are unworthy. My answer is always the same. It is because I find God in prison, in the face of every person I’ve had the privilege to meet there. I bet if you visited St. Dysmas yourself, you would find God there too, like so many others, greeted by light in the darkest of places.
